Great book explaining the chemical contents of the very day items we all use. A worthy addition to your library of reference books explaining what all the contents on a label are actually there for. Recommend for chemists and non chemists as its in every day lay mans terms. A bit repetitive for some chemicals but as a reference book that is used for just looking up a product it's not a problem.

A typical/classic Emsley title. The text is well-written, flows well, and appeals to the scientist and most importantly: the non-scientist/non-specialist. Like all titles by John, there is a focus on the application of the chemistry in a way that not only conveys the molecular interaction, but the information required for a non-specialist to comprehend in an enjoyable fashion. As with other titles, the text does a lot of good for chemists; those white-haired, funny smelling, off-white coat wearing folk - a common misnomer. Chemistry is not bad, but essential for living. I cannot wait for the next title.
